Dental Crowns to Restore Your Smile
At South Granville Dentistry - Dr. Melissa Lin & Associates in Vancouver, we offer dental crowns as a solution to repair badly decayed or fractured teeth. Crowns "cap" a tooth, restoring its shape and strength.
How do Crowns work?
Dental crowns (or dental caps) cover a damaged tooth, restoring it to its original shape, size and colour. They also protect the tooth from future damage.
Crowns improve the strength, function, and appearance of a broken tooth that may otherwise be lost.
Teeth that are too small to be repaired with standard fillings may be crowned instead.
The Procedure
Our dentists at South Granville Dentistry will first remove the decay and clean the tooth. A highly accurate 3D scan is then made of the prepared surface.
This scan is used to create a virtual model of the tooth which is then sent to an onsite milling unit that will create a porcelain crown.
The crown is then cemented onto the prepared surface of the tooth.
What are the benefits?
A crown can hold a cracked tooth together and prevent the damage from increasing. Crowns can also be used to attach a dental bridge, and to cover badly shaped or discoloured teeth.
Crowns are incredibly strong due to the fact that they are made of strong porcelain. This protects and strengthens the remaining tooth structure.
