Dental Implants to Replace Missing Teeth
Dental implants can be used to replace a single lost tooth or many teeth and are a more permanent solution than dentures. Implants will leave you with a functional, natural-looking smile.
What are dental implants?
A dental implant is a metal root that acts as a substitute for your tooth's natural root. This allows an artificial tooth to be attached to it, restoring your smile.
Dental implants can help to:
- Prevent shifting of surrounding teeth
- Resolve issues with your bite and jaw joint
- Prevent jaw joint pain or bite issues
- Improve speech, chewing, and digestion
- Helps your face retain its natural shape and appearance
The Procedure
Implant procedures require three pieces: a metal root, an abutment, and a tooth replacement. In most cases, this is a crown or bridge.
The metal root will first be surgically placed into the jaw bone. This typically requires four to six months for full healing of the surgical implant, which must happen prior to placing the artificial tooth.
At this point, your dentist will attach the tooth replacement and abutment to the implant, creating a functional and natural-looking tooth.
In cases where there is not enough bone to support a dental implant, more advanced surgery may be required to allow the use of implants.

- How long will my dental implants last?
The first cylindrical-type implants were placed 30 years ago, and we're pleased to report that they are still functioning perfectly.
